Herekind transformed a large, emotionally sensitive dataset into clear, defensible insights using Communiti Analysis, moving from weeks of manual coding to minutes of evidence‑based clarity. The platform helped the team distinguish intuition from statistically significant patterns, honour cultural nuance, and build a repeatable social‑impact baseline grounded in real community experience.
Key Highlights
From weeks to minutes: Analysis that once required line‑by‑line coding, spreadsheets, and manual counting was completed in a fraction of the time.
Confidence in community voice: Clear citations and traceability ensured findings genuinely reflected what families were saying, not assumptions or personal bias.
A defensible social‑impact baseline: Insights from 170+ survey responses and hundreds of interviews now underpin Herekind’s annual social‑impact measurement and advocacy agenda.
About Herekind
Herekind is a mission‑driven organisation focused on making estate administration simpler, more transparent, and more emotionally supportive for families. Founded by leaders with deep experience in ESG, banking, and social impact, the company is committed to improving inheritance literacy and reducing the financial and emotional toll of estate administration.
We spoke with Joyce Jiao, Co-Founder of Herekind, about how her team used Communiti Analysis to transform emotionally sensitive qualitative data into clear, defensible insights that support Herekind’s social-impact measurement and advocacy work.
At Scale and Under Pressure: When Sensitivity Meets Complexity
Herekind faced a research challenge defined by scale, emotional weight, and ethical responsibility. More than 170 survey responses and hundreds of interviews contained deeply personal reflections on grief, conflict, cultural identity, and financial hardship.
Many early themes lived only “in the co-founder’s head,” making it difficult to separate intuition from statistically significant patterns. Traditional qualitative methods such as spreadsheets, manual coding, counting mentions, would have taken weeks and risked introducing bias.
The team also felt a strong obligation to honour the trauma and vulnerability people shared, particularly when working with First Nations communities, where cultural context and language required careful, respectful interpretation. As a social‑impact organisation, Herekind needed a defensible baseline to measure their impact over time, adding further complexity.
From Intuition to Evidence: Herekind’s New Approach to Analysis
Herekind adopted Communiti Analysis, powered by Communiti Labs, to bring structure, clarity, and statistical rigour to their qualitative data. Uploading transcripts and open‑ended responses surfaced key themes within minutes, each supported by transparent citation counts showing exactly how often families raised particular issues.
"I loved how the key themes surfaced straight away. I had a sense of what would be important, but seeing the citation counts gave me confidence that these issues were statistically significant, not just in my head or influenced by my own experience." — Joyce Jiao, Co‑Founder, Herekind
This shift gave the team immediate visibility into what mattered most, and confidence that insights reflected real community experience rather than personal interpretation. The initial qualitative analysis informed the design of Herekind’s quantitative survey, ensuring questions were grounded in genuine community concerns. Once the survey closed, the team uploaded open‑ended responses again to validate and deepen the findings.
Throughout the process, Communiti Analysis freed cognitive space for the team to focus on interpretation, cultural nuance, and advocacy rather than manual tagging. This was especially important when identifying First Nations experiences, where the platform surfaced culturally specific language that the team could then review with advisors to ensure accuracy and respect.
From Weeks to Minutes: Immediate and Defensible Insights
The impact was immediate. What once took three weeks of manual coding was completed in minutes, with the added benefit of citation‑level transparency. This gave Herekind a level of confidence and defensibility that manual methods could not match.
"I used to work with social researchers going line‑by‑line through community responses, tracking mentions in spreadsheets to measure statistical significance. Qualitative analysis is incredibly hard. That’s what I really loved about using Communiti Analysis. What took us three weeks in consulting, Communiti Analysis did in minutes." — Joyce Jiao, Co‑Founder, Herekind
The platform also surfaced unexpected insights, including the extent of the emotional burden families experience during estate administration, validating the need for grief‑informed design in Herekind’s solution. It highlighted culturally specific experiences, including First Nations perspectives, that might otherwise have been overlooked. Most importantly, Herekind now has a repeatable, evidence‑based framework for measuring their social impact each year, strengthening both their advocacy and long‑term mission.
"I knew it was emotional, but I thought that was just my interpretation. Seeing the statistical significance brought it home." — Joyce Jiao, Co‑Founder, Herekind
Designing for Impact: Building a Sustainable, Evidence‑Led Future
Herekind plans to use Communiti Analysis annually to measure their social impact and track how their solution reduces financial stress, emotional burden, and administrative complexity for families. The team also sees opportunities to use the platform in future advocacy work, ensuring that the voices of families, including those from marginalised communities, continue to shape policy and industry reform.
"We’re committing to measuring our social impact every year. Communiti Labs will be part of that." — Joyce Jiao, Co‑Founder, Herekind
As they grow, the clarity and defensibility provided by Communiti Analysis will remain central to their mission of making estate administration more humane, accessible, and equitable.
"If you want to understand your community feedback quickly, use Communiti Labs. Even if you’re new to community analysis, it gives you confidence in the data and an auditable trail that shows you’re genuinely capturing what the community is saying and what matters most." — Joyce Jiao, Co‑Founder, Herekind
